At times motivating yourself can be difficult, whatever you’re trying to motivate yourself to do. Everyone finds it difficult from time to time and we all feel demotivated sometimes. We can feel a little (or a lot) on the lazy side, sending us into a never ending spital of procrastination.
So, here are some tips on how to motivate yourself on those days when you feel a little lazy.
1. Make a to-do list
Lists are very helpful when it comes to being productive, although they might not help everybody. Making lists helps you to see exactly what you need to get done in the next day, week or month even. It can feel very satisfying when you cross of a task on your to-do list and the list slowly but surely gets shorter! If it works for you, then this is a great way to motivate yourself to be productive.
2. Listening to music
Listening to my favourite music (ie Cheryl for anybody that wants to know) really helps me to focus on tasks and being productive rather than sitting around on YouTube watching videos, procrasinating basically. Or just listening to motivational songs in general is really helpful – you can create your own list on Spotify or there will already be playlists on there for you if uou search for them!
3. Planning fun things
This is a really helpful motivator for sure. It gives you something to look foreward to once you have completed your tasks, for example having a coffee with friends, reading a book, planning a little shopping spree. Planning something fun gives you a reward for after you’ve finished your set tasks/goals for that day or week.
4. Break down tasks into smaller chunks
By breaking down tasks into smaller chunks it will make your daunting and possible exhausting to do list a lot more manageable. That way you’ll be able to move through your tasks a lot easier without becoming as demotivated.
5. Have breaks
It’s important to have breaks from your tasks throughout the day. By taking breaks every so often it will help you to keep up your motivation for longer (unless you end up getting distracted!) But seriously, taking breaks is important so you don’t work yourself too hard. Take breaks. Go for a walk, get some fresh air, grab a healthy snack to refresh yourself. It will do you good.
