Tackling Blogging And A Full Time Job

Tackling Blogging & A Full Time JobAs you may or may not know, I have had a full time job for a couple of weeks and I love it (fingers crossed so far). My work day starts at 8:30am and finishes at 5pm which doesn’t give me much time to blog as often anymore (yet I’m challenging myself this month with blogtober.)

Running a blog isn’t easy in the slightest – in fact it can be a full time job in itself. There’s a lot that goes in to blogging from writing the content to promoting your posts on social media, it’s a very time consuming hobby.

Blogging and having a full time job isn’t easy in the slightest. Work can be exhausting sometimes and the last thing I want to do when I get home is to write/edit a blog post for the next day. I don’t get home until quarter to six at in the evening and at this time I just want to relax.

At the moment I don’t have a routine for writing for my blog – I’m just writing whenever. But I do want to get into the routine and become more organised, I pride myself on being organised rather than doing things at the last minute. I still want the quality of my blog posts to be good whilst also being able to post on a regular basis – I know how important consistency is when blogging. The only thing is, I won’t be able to work on my blog during the work.

In the near future I hope that I can become more organised with my blog and my posting schedule. I know that I’ll have to get 90% of my blog done on the weekends since that’s when I have the most time at the moment (other than when I’m off, such as half term). Otherwise I simply won’t have time to blog and this is a hobby that I want to keep up with, even if it can be challenging sometimes whilst I’m working full time.

When tackling blogging alongside a full time job and other responsibilities I’ve definitely learnt that it’s important to be organised in order to keep on top of things. If you aren’t organised then it can make the whole blogging thing ten times more difficult than it needs to be. Blogging isn’t always easy to begin with but it is possible to make it slightly easier for yourself.

I’ve also learnt that it’s okay to miss a post when you’re working full time since it isn’t always easy to keep up with. When there is one day that I can’t post on my blog then so be it, at the end of the day it’s not the end of the world to miss a blog post or two and take a short break. We’re all human after all and we have lives besides our blogs.

Hopefully within time I will find it easier and I will get myself into a routine of writing a couple of blog posts a week and get them all scheduled in advance. It’s definitely possible if I manage my time well.

  1. well I can totally relate! I’m not working but surely blogging is not easy and finding your “blogging routine” might me quite challenging! I’ve just started blogging and I feel so unorganized because I have not found what works best for me. Btw I loved your post xx -M

  2. I do not have a full time job but I work part time and also have to study so working at the same time can definitely be hard but it is totally worth it! Taking photos at the weekend in particular helps me a lot because I have unlimited access to natural lighting hahah. xx

  3. I understand the struggle. I work full time too, around 9 hours a day. I haven’t had a lot of time lately to promote my blog and read/comment others blogs because I’ve been busy with work and other things. I also try to write up some posts on weekends as well, but I especially have to do any picture taking on weekends because of my schedule. I work 2nd shift, so I go in around 1:30 pm and get off around 10:30 pm. I go to sleep around 4 am and then wake up around quarter after 12 and have to get out the door at 1, so I have no time for picture taking during the week. I prefer to try to use natural light for my photos because it looks nicer, and my only free time during the week is at night.

  4. I love this post. It’s exactly what I needed right now. I recently started a full time apprenticeship and juggling that with blogging isn’t always easy but I’m sure it is possible. Like you said, I just need to schedule ahead. It’s ironic really because my Apprenticeship is working with blogs and social media so when I get home I am a little drained but I am not going to lose that passion 😊

  5. I know exactly what you mean! it makes it even harder starting a new blog! I always try to find any downtime to jot down ideas, or make a full post and “schedule” it for later in the week. It helps when there’s weeks I just feel like I don’t have time!
