How my blog started
I first started blogging back in 2015 where I was posting book reviews, but it was very sporadic because I was also studying A Levels. I didn’t have time to blog, or at least I didn’t make much time for it so didn’t keep the ball rolling.
I came back to my blog properly in 2016 after I’d finished my A Levels because I had more time on my hands and I wanted to make blogging work. This time I started posting more regularly, but I was posting under my own name. Life happened over the next couple of my months and my blog suffered because of that.
It came around to the end of November / beginning of December when I really decided that I wanted to make blogging work. What better way to spend my spare time than utilising my love for writing? Blogging really helped to give me a sense of purpose at a time when I needed it the most. It was around this point, if I remember rightly, that I also ended up ‘rebranding’ my blog into what it is now, Ashleigh Writes.
Now, two years later, I have no idea what I would be doing in spare time if I didn’t blog! Blogging and working full time isn’t easy, but I make it work (most of the time) because I love it!
Advice for new bloggers
- Write content for yourself. At the end of the day, your blog is your own and if you want to enjoy blogging then I would highly advise you to write content for yourself. Blogging is hard work at the best of times, writing content that you enjoy will make it more enjoyable.
- Social media is your best friend. When it comes to putting your blog and the content that you’re posting out there, social media is your best friend for promoting this content. I have written a blog post on ways to grow your blog through Twitter as a useful guide if you’re just getting started or need some tips.
If anybody wants to take part in this, then feel free and let me know in the comments! I’m very busy at the moment and I would hate to nominate people who’ve already taken part in this before.
How did your blog start? I’d love to know in the comments below!

I always love reading these posts, it’s nice to get to know a blogger and how they began!
Definitely agree with your advice; my boyfriend and I write our blog together and we’ve found ourselves being much more passionate to write when it’s something we enjoy.
Social media is a godsend for bloggers – maybe not Instagram in our case but absolutely Twitter and Pinterest!
Lovely post. 🧡

It took me a few times to get my blog up and keep it up as well. I stopped and started a few times due to life and time and general cluelessness on how to get everything to work the way I wanted it too! Your tips for new bloggers are spot on though, espechially writing for yourself!

Congratulations!!
My blog started as a writing exercise to write 365 words a day for 365 days a year. It lasted for about 4 months til I got into graduate school. When that was done I rebranded as more of a Mindful Midlife Blog where I chase down two teens while chasing down my center. I love hearing the origin stories for other bloggers so thank you for starting the conversation!
