Motivation and Blogging – An Update

Motivation and Blogging An Update(1)

For today’s blog post I thought I would do a kind of ‘update’ post. For the past couple of months, I haven’t really been posting on my blog as regularly as I would have liked to, despite my best intentions at the beginning of the year to blog consistently. I haven’t been as active on social media (Twitter mainly) as I would have liked either. In this blog post, I want to discuss my relationship with my blogging alongside some self-reflection outside of the blogging world. This might be a longer post than usual so grab a snack if you wish!

I absolutely love blogging and it’s honestly one of my favourite things to do because I just love writing so much, whether it be fiction or nonfiction. There are many ways that blogging allows me to be creative as much as the world of fiction does (which I miss and really want to get back into, but that’s a whole other story).

Even though I haven’t been posting as consistently on my blog, my love for blogging is still there, but there’s just one thing missing.

In all honesty, I’ve been lacking in motivation, as you can probably gather from the title of my blog post, despite having quite a number of blog post ideas up my sleeve. Motivation is definitely a big thing when it comes to writing and keeping your blog up to date, but it’s something I’ve been struggling with. I think that working a full-time job whilst blogging on the side makes it more challenging. Whenever I get home from work, it’s difficult to find the motivation to write a blog post and to take photos that I need to accompany my posts.

Another reason why I feel like I haven’t posted consistently on my blog is that I’ve been putting a lot of pressure on myself. Alongside working full time I wanted to keep up with posting on my blog three times a week, but realistically this isn’t going to work on a regular basis. Although I may have enough content ideas to make this work, working full time alongside blogging as my hobby just isn’t going to allow me to do this. I don’t want to make the quality of my blog posts suffer just to pump out more content. I’m sure you guys would agree with me on that one. Quality over quantity always wins.

Moving forward with my blog I want to make sure that I’m posting on a regular basis. Life can be hectic and things can get in the way, but I want to make a pact with myself to post on my blog at least twice a week.

This post was a bit of a ramble in a way, but I still wanted to post it nonetheless. I feel like that’s how my mind is at the moment, but I want to make an effort to take control of the things around me in my life. One of those things is blogging! So, let’s do this.

I hope you have a lovely day!

  1. Quality is always best, when I’m super inspired I write lots of posts at a time and schedule them throughout the month, that way when I’m feeling down, I still have posts for my blog. 💜😊

  2. Quality is lots more important than quantity for sure! It is so difficult to post as often as we would like when working full time too. My blog really suffered in April but I’m hoping to be more on it in May! I feel like I’m getting worse at promotion on social too. Sometimes we need to take breaks from our blogs to remind ourselves why we do them! X

  3. Hello,Ms Ashleeigh Taylor this is madhuri, you are just awesome. As you have said quality over quantity, I want to share with you something today I have learned from blogging tips ,that quantity over quality wins. This you have proved by yourself by posting this long read. Moreover ,what you have told in this post, I accept my situation is also more or less similar to that of you. My schedule is hectic too but I couldn’t stop myself from blogging.

  4. Thank you for sharing! I’ve also had consistency issues with blogging. Sometimes it’s better to a.) re-evaluate your short-term and long term goals, b.) know what you can or can’t handle, and c.) take a break. Your mental health is a crucial part of being a blogger! 🙂

  5. I agree with you that it’s definitely hard to find the motivation to write sometimes, I get this with both my blog and my novel. You don’t want to force yourself to do anything because it won’t be as passionate I think compared to when you’re in the zone! Quality is definitely over quantity with blogging, it’s your blog and whatever you do readers will be happy to read so hopefully that can relieve some of the pressure for you!x

  6. I am totally in the same boat as you, I’d love to spend more time on my blog but a full-time job, 3 kids and a house to keep going just stop me from doing it as much as I want. The way I see it is that if it’s my hobby, then there’s no point in worrying about it because when you put too much pressure on yourself you’ll just stop enjoying it. I hope you find your motivation again now that you’ve eased your schedule a bit. Steff xx

  7. I totally understand where you come from. I am in the same situation, working full time and blogging on the side. It is really hard and I have problems finishing my posts and posting them on time. I found that for me posting 3 – 4 times a month works best. I would love to post more, but I know this would not be viable.

  8. Hi. I lived your post. This is what have been going through the last few months since I started blogging. All of this has left me a little dissatisfied and unmotivated. I was waiting for a boost like this. Thanks for sharing!
