For my first bookish blog post, I thought it would be a good idea to catch you all up on the books I’ve read over summer between June and August. Summer has been the best time for me to catch up on reading whilst I’ve been having a break from university work, and I must admit it’s been a productive one this year!
June Wrap-Up
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Her Last Holiday by C L Taylor (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Pet Sematary by Stephen King (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo has to be my favourite read of 2023 so far, I wish I could read this book for the first time again! Pet Sematary was also the first book that I’ve read by Stephen King and it didn’t disappoint, it was such a creepy and disturbing story but also so well written. I do have reviews written for both of these on my Goodreads account and bookstagram if you want to check them out. I can’t want to read more books by Stephen King and Taylor Jenkins Reid!
July Wrap-Up
- Two Women by Martina Cole (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Girl Online by Zoe Sugg (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- The Ice Beneath Her by Camilla Grebe (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- Honeymoon for One by Rachel Bowdler (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham (⭐️⭐️⭐️.75)
- The Vanishing Year by Kate Moretti (⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- As You Like It by William Shakespeare (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- The Spanish Tragedy by Thomas Kyd (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- Sister by Rosamund Lupton (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Nineteen Ninety-Four by George Orwell (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
So… July was the month that I was somewhat hyperfocused on reading because I read a total of 13 books which is unusually high for me. These were a mixture of Kindle and physical reads – this was one of those months where I was trying to utilise the Kindle app more often on my phone and iPad! My favourite read of August was probably Honeymoon for One which is a cute Christmas queer romance (it’s acceptable to a christmas romance in summer, right?). I read this one through Prime Reading on Kindle if anyone is interested. A few of these reads were preparation for my upcoming literature module and didn’t take long too read so that definitely helped to bump up my total reads for the month.
August Wrap-Up
- The Dare by Lesley Kara (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- The Hanging City by Charlie N. Holmberg (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- Classical Mythology: A Very Short Introduction by Helen Morales (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- Goodnight Lady by Martina Cole (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
- Hamlet by William Shakespeare (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
In August I read a total of 7 books which is still quite a productive reading month for me. My favourite books from August where the Harry Potter ones (shock), but I also really enjoyed The Dare and Goodnight Lady too!
Over summer I ended up reading a total of 23 books which is actually crazy. I think it was during this time that I also ended up hitting my Goodreads reading challenge of 30 books for the year! I have considered changing my reading goal, but I don’t want to set another goal that’s too high in case I don’t end up reaching it. Any books I finish from now on are just bonuses!
With the start of university being right around the corner, I know that I probably won’t have as much time to read for pleasure. Instead, I’ll be drowning in university work and assignments, but it’s also the last push until I finish my degree! Hopefully I will have some study content to post soon too for you all.
In the mean time, see you all next week for my next blog post!
