The Birthday Cake Book Tag

I recently saw this tag on A Dance with Books by Annemieke and thought it would be the perfect blog post idea since it’s my birthday month! Might as well make the most of my birthday whilst I can, right?! Without further ado, let’s get straight into the book tag.

Chocolate Cake

A dark book you absolutely love

The book that instantly comes to mind for this is Pet Sematary which was the first book I’ve ever read by Stephen King. This is such a dark and creepy book, but I absolutely loved it at the same time. If you enjoy dark horror books, then I’m sure you would enjoy this too. The ending to this book had me speechless.

Vanilla Cake

A light read

For this one, I would probably go with The Girl Online by Zoe Sugg which is a YA romance. I read this shortly after reading Pet Sematary by Stephen King and Two Women by Martina Cole; I needed that light read after reading books with such dark and heavy themes. This book is far from a five star read, but I have to say that it’s the perfect light read so I can’t fault it for that!

Red velvet

A book that gave you mixed emotions

Maybe Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney. I think I did give this 4 stars in the end, but it took me a while to get into it. It was still a really good read, but I do feel that it’s a bit overhyped in my opinion.

Cheesecake

A book you would recommend to anyone

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, simply because it’s my favourite book that I’ve read this year!

Coffee Cake

A book you started but never finished

There are a few books that I’ve started and never finished over the past few years. The last book I dnf’ed was The Fellowship of the Ring by J R R Tolkien which I started through Prime reading. I may pick it back up again next year. I recently finished The Hobbit last month which I enjoyed, it just took me a while to get through it.

Carrot Cake

A book with great writing

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. This is probably one of my favourite classics.

Tiramisu

A book that left you wanting more

Probably The Vanishing Year by Kate Moretti. I love thrillers, but I definitely felt like there was something missing with this which is why I ended up rating it 3.5 stars. It was still a decent read nonetheless.

Cupcakes

A series with 4+ books

So this has to be my all time fave, Harry Potter. Fave series ever.

Fruit cake

A book that wasn’t what you anticipated

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. I recently read this at the beginning of October and I really thought I would enjoy it, but I found it to be more of a chore to read. I had high hopes but it let me down!

Question of the day: Have you ever read any of the books I’ve mentioned? If so, what were your thoughts?
