Birthday Book Haul

Recently, I turned 26 which meant that I just had to go out and spend some of the money I very gratefully received on books. I should really be on a book buying ban, but I just couldn’t help myself. As it was my birthday, it was necessary that I made an exception to this!

First, I picked up four books from The Works as an early birthday present for myself a few weeks ago. I absolutely love The Works and it’s such a great place to pick up some bargains.

  • The Hotel by Louise Mumford (Thriller)
  • The Accident by Katie McMahon (Thriller)
  • Murder at the Theatre Royal by Ada Moncrieff (Historical Christmas Mystery)
  • Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Historical)

The first three books were in the 3 for £6 deal which is an absolute bargain. Carrie Soto is Back was only a fiver which isn’t bad at all either! The rating for Murder at the Theatre Royale is on the low side (3.25) on Goodreads, so I’m hoping that I actually enjoy it. I’m hoping to read this in December so we shall see.

Earlier this week, I went to a local outlet and ended up buying another eight books which wasn’t intended at all. Below are the books I ended up buying:

  • The Shining by Stephen King (Horror)
  • Doctor Sleep by Stephen King (Horror)
  • Hellfire by Karin Fossum (Mystery/Crime)
  • I Can See In The Dark by Karin Fossum (Mystery/Crime)
  • Dead and Alive by Dean Koontz (Horror/Thriller)
  • City of Night by Dean Koontz (Horror/Thriller)
  • The Dead Town by Dean Koontz (Horror/Thriller)
  • Lost Souls by Dean Koontz (Horror/Thriller)

I’ve really been enjoying the Stephen King books that I’ve read so far which are Cujo and Pet Sematary. I knew that I had to buy some more Stephen King and the two that I bought were in the 2 for £5 deal. Not bad at all! I love these editions too.

The rest of the books were in the clearance sale for £1 each which is an absolute bargain if you ask me, and they’re brand new. The books I picked up by Dean Koontz are part of his Frankenstein series and are a modern adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein which is exciting. I just need to buy the first in this series before I start them.

I’m also interested in reading the two mystery/crime books I picked up by Karin Fossum who’s a Norwegian author, so her books have been translated into English. It can be a fresh change to read books by authors who aren’t British, especially mystery, crime, or thriller books as those are the main genres I enjoy!

I’m really excited to read all of these books from this haul when I eventually get around to them! After buying all of these books, I’m definitely going on a book buying ban until I’ve made a dent in my physical tbr list! I have a total of 38 on my physical tbr so it’s needed.

Question of the day: Have you read any of the books mentioned in the post? If so, what were your thoughts?
